On the decade anniversary of 9/11, there is no greater topic I can think to write about than to honor the memory of those who lost their lives on that horrific day.
I remember that morning very clearly as I’m sure most people do. It was the most unthinkable course of events – something I would have never imagined would happen in my lifetime. But it did, and it changed things forever. I can only wonder how the families of those who have fallen have coped for the past 10 years.
As we ask ourselves “Why did the people who did this hate us so much?”, I only come back to one single word: Jealously.
They are jealous of our basic freedoms. They are jealous of our advantages. They are jealous of our health, abundance, and fortunes. They are jealous that we don’t suffer under dictatorship, inequality, or censorship. They are jealous of what we have.
If you are reading this blog or any other one about money, then chances are your finances are already on some sort of stable foundation (or at least getting there). No matter where you think you are in life, you’re already so far beyond what others could dream for. Having visited a few other countries now, it is clear to me just how incredible America is. We walk down the street without fear. When we turn on the water, it works and is clean. We drive on roads and bridges that don’t fall apart. There is always food no matter where we go. We are able to go school when we are young, and most of us can get any job we want when we get older. We live like kings and don’t even know how good we have it. This is what makes America truly beautiful – it’s a place where everyone is entitled to all of these God given rights, and free to do make as much of them as they possibly can.
Remember to always be proud of your country and never take for granted the true simplicities of our lives. Remember that everything can change in an instant as it did that day, and to cherish each moment with your loved ones for as long as you possibly can.
