Weekend Wind Down 3/10/2012

The month of the birthdays continues… Both of our children’s birthdays are in March, so each weekend is usually filled with something relating to them. This week will be their combined birthday party with their friends and cousins. Last week we saw “The Lorax” as part of our son’s presents. The movie was hilarious by the way! The majority of the week was spent with our son fighting off a nasty stomach bug that caused him to have to miss school for a few days. I’m looking forward to a weekend where everyone’s health is back to normal.

As many of you already know from my prior post, the week started off on a good note with the closing of our home refinance! That activity saves us about $100 per month on our budget. Also, the way the schedule worked out, we get to skip one whole month before our next payment is due which means we save on one payment out-of-pocket this year. Unfortunately Mrs. MMD already knows this and is scheming ways to spend it!

Carnivals:

MyMoneyDesign was featured in the following personal finance carnivals this week:

• Carnival of Retirement #9: Like planting a garden

• TotallyMoney Blog Carnival # 57 – Words of Wisdom Edition

• Edition #227 of the Carnival of Financial Planning

In addition, I’d also like to say thanks again to Invest It Wisely for hosting a guest post by me this week.

Stats:

Here are my stats for the week:

• Alexa Ranking: 244,725 (as of 3/09/12). That’s almost 84,000 spots down from last week!

• Google PageRank: 1 / 10

• SEOmoz MozRank: 1.97 / 10

I don’t want to get too ahead of myself, but I think one more week at this rate should do the trick to get my Alexa Ranking down below 200,000. From there, the new goal will be making sure it stays that low all the time!

Thanks again to all my new and returning visitors who have helped me achieve these ranks. I appreciate your support and hope you continue to enjoy my site!

Congrats on closing your home refinance. And also, congrats on the great alexa ranking progress. My blog just dipped below 200k today. It is rewarding to seeing my efforts doing some good, even if it’s just stats. Good luck getting to 200k this week MMD!

Thanks! I’ve really been working at it. Although my ranking hasn’t came down as fast as others, I’m pretty happy with the progress thus far. I see your score has greatly improved as well!

Great progress on Alexa! Congrats. What do you attribute to the amazing reduction?

Thank you! I plan to write a “how-to” article when I officially dip below 200k. But in summary, the secret is commenting. I spend more time visiting other blogs and commenting than I do working on my own articles.

Do you have the Alexa toolbar installed on your Internet browser? That is Move #1. Everytime you visit your own site, it counts towards lowering your score. Similarly, you should also install the Alexa badge on your website. Everytime someone visits your site, it will count towards lowering your score as well.
